SPRING SPRITES

Spring sprites with pink hyacinth skin
and honeysuckle hair dance about
in bluebell slippers on sleeping trees
to form bursting buds.

They nourish these buds
and awaken the ones below
with their tears of joy
and rainbow smiles.

Forsythias crown these queens
as they collect nectar sprinkled with magic
into big tulips that contain the love potion
they pour onto couples each spring.

At summer's approach,
they fly with gossamer wings
down valleys of dying lilies
to nestle in rose-petal beds
while their daffodil dreams
evaporate in the hot summer sun.
