The Lorelei Signal

Thank you for your support over the years
After twenty years of publication, I have made the difficult decision to close The Lorelei Signal.
When The Lorelei Signal first began, it was very much a labor of love. It started as a for-the-love market, built around the joy of discovering stories, sharing voices, and creating a place for speculative fiction with heart, imagination, and strength. Over time, the magazine grew into a paying market, and I have been proud of that growth. The Lorelei Signal has always been a one-woman, self-funded publication, and I am deeply grateful for the writers, artists, readers, and supporters who helped make it possible.
This has not been an easy decision. For many years, I loved putting each issue together. I loved reading the submissions, finding the stories that belonged in the magazine, and sending each new issue out into the world. But I have come to realize the joy I once found in producing the magazine is no longer there in the same way, and I believe it is better to close The Lorelei Signal with care and gratitude rather than continue when my heart is no longer fully in the work.
The Apr-Jun issue marked The Lorelei Signal’s twentieth anniversary, which makes this decision especially bittersweet. After reaching that milestone, and with one final July–September issue still to come for stories already contracted, this feels like the right time to bring the magazine to a close.
Submissions that had not yet been contracted have been returned to their authors, and The Lorelei Signal is no longer accepting new submissions.
The website will remain online until July 2027 so that the stories currently in the archive can remain available for the period covered by their contracts. After that time, the site will be taken down.
I have sent notices to all authors whose submissions were still under consideration. If you submitted work to The Lorelei Signal and did not receive an email from me, it may be because the message could not be delivered. Please know that your submission has been released from consideration and you are free to submit it elsewhere.
To every author who entrusted me with their work, every artist who helped bring stories to life, every reader who visited the site, and everyone who supported The Lorelei Signal over the years, thank you. Twenty years is a long road for a small magazine, and it could not have lasted this long without the creativity, generosity, and patience of the community around it.
With gratitude,
Carol Hightshoe
