The Lorelei Signal

Witchy Sisters
Written by Jennifer Crow / Artwork by Lee Ann Barlow

The season of spirits descends upon us:
Bare branches claw at the sky
And moonlight shimmers across a skim of ice.
Dance with me, widdershins
Scheming, sunwise dreaming.
Cauldron bubble, fire burn
Let us spin and vengeance earn.
We gather, witchy sisters, beneath
The effigy of malice, setting torch
To tattered threads and a sackcloth mask
Drawn crooked and stuffed
With moldy straw. We will dance
Around its dangling feet,
Each singing our own hymn
Of victory. May the skies witness
And kindle a deeper flame in us:
Cauldron bubble, fire burn—
We’ve waited, now we’ll have our turn.

Shy and nocturnal, Jennifer Crow has rarely been photographed in the wild, but it’s rumored that she lives near a waterfall in western New York. You can find other examples of her poetry on several websites and in various print magazines including Uncanny Magazine, Liminality and Space & Time.
She’s always happy to connect with readers on her Facebook author page or on twitter @writerjencrow.
