The Un-Learning

Sunk in forgottenness - no-one knows her name.
Pointed shards reflecting a shimmer of eyes.
She was manipulated, programmed with lies,
Raised to believe she was the one to blame.
She is a thread in someone’s game,
Hands pulling tighter the ties,
Until she begs for release and cries,
Wondering if it was all in vain.
Re-program, rewrite the fact
Redefine how she was wrought.
She chooses no longer to react -
Freedom cannot be bought.
She must reboot after being hacked,
Un-learn what she was taught.
Nicky O’Connell is an emerging South African poet and painter, who tends to follow the threads running through her paintings, writing and poetry - they all intersect, reach into, and inspire each other. She has a background in Psychology and is a member of Mensa which tends to influence how she sees the world and finds patterns.
